My daughter is four months old and has been exclusively breastfed up unitl now. I am wondering how old your babies were when you started them on solids.

Hi!

I think that my babies were about 6 months when I started giving them solids. I was told that it would be okay to start with cereals between 4 and 6 months. My child's pediatrician recommended Feeding Your Baby the Healthiest Foods by Louise Lambert-Lagace to get me prepared for the process. I found it very helpful. I always thought rice cereal tasted like paper.

I know it's a cliche, but enjoy this time. It passes quickly.

Have a good night.

I started my son on solids at 6 months. He was exclusively breast fed until then. I was told I could start solids at 4 months by my ped. but did not feel he was ready. By the time he started he was very interested in eating and has taken to solids very well. I started with cereals and then moved to vegitables and fruit. He is just starting meats this week. He is a very good eater. I make his foods (other than cereals) and find it doesn't take that much time thanks to my hand blender.

Don't rush to feed your daughter. You will know when she is ready. She should be getting most her nurtition from you for several more months. Enjoy your baby.

Hi, one thing to remember is that every child is different. The recommendation is starting solids at 6 months, since by six mts ur child iron reserves are depleated. the 1st thing to introduce is an iron fortified cereal. i personally went w/ an organic cereal, but at least choose one w/ no added sugar or salt.
if ur baby is showing sign that she's ready (tries to grab ur food, seems un-satisfied after a feed) then u could start w/ tps of cereal once a day for the next month
Hope this helped.
Marisa
